It’s simple. You love theater. You want to see new work and new perspectives on stage. You think training a new generation of theater artists is important. You believe all New Yorkers should have access to art regardless of financial means. You know that experiencing a diverse range of plays that represent all voices is significant in the creation of empathy and understanding in the world. You understand that producing theater is expensive, but definitely worth the investment. You are eager to help.
Five reasons you should make a gift to Primary Stages today:
Each year, Primary Stages opens doors for over 15,000 artists, students, and audience members from across the New York metropolitan area and now from around the world through our productions.
We provide a long-term artistic home for established writers such as Charles Busch, Kate Hamill, and Theresa Rebeck, who return to Primary Stages time and time again with their latest works.
Our Einhorn School for Performing Arts (ESPA) offers unparalleled opportunities for our student playwrights, directors, and actors to study from every corner of the globe with leading artists and to build a collaborative community that extends beyond the physical and virtual classrooms. Our students have gone on to work professionally with Primary Stages and other prominent theater companies.
We support playwrights at all stages of their artistic development—from aspiring writers crafting their first script in an ESPA class to the emerging writers in our Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group who are gifted rare space and time to hone their work.
While many of our peers offer ticket discounts for New York City public school students, Primary Stages is the only theater company to provide Free Student Matinees at no cost to schools or students.
